Why does every poor result get blamed on Tav?

genuinely baffling.

How anyone could watch tonight and believe Tav is the problem is beyond me.

We had a woeful midfield 3 that Dundee walked through at times which happened at the weekend as well. Lundstram and Lawrence barely got beyond jogging pace tonight.

We have multiple forward players who struggle to create and stick the ball in the net. In January many felt we needed to sign a goalscorer and that’s now coming back to bite us on the arse.

Silva, Matondo are useless. Roofe is like an old cripple and Dessers is just woeful.

Goldson and Souttar are a bombscare partnership.

Tav has flaws, no arguments there. If he didn’t then he’d be playing at a far higher level.

But the amount of unfair criticism towards him is genuinely baffling.

“He goes hiding” - utter shite. No matter how bad he’s playing or the team is playing, he always shows for the ball and tries to drive us forward.

“He’s a bottle merchant” - utter shite. Lost count how many times he’s stepped up in pressure situations/moments in massive games to deliver an assist/free kick/goal. Hardly the signs of a bottler.

“he’s no a captain” - two world class players and captains in GVB and SG sung his praises as a captain and player but what do they know. All because he doesn’t scream and shout and grab teammates by the throat on the park.

He was our biggest contributor in reaching the Europa league final, top scorer in the competition scoring many pressure penalties including leading in the shootout with the first penalty. Almost won the thing had it not been for Ramsay.

Stepped up in the league cup final and regularly in the 55 season.

The trophy count since he’s been here hasn’t been good enough but it’s a collective team issue rather than a Tav issue. And the first few years he was here is hardly a stick to beat him with given the shite surrounding him and the circus we had in the dugout until Gerrard arrived.

If fans genuinely believe getting rid of Tav will result in our defence being solid and midfield/strikers making up Tav’s numbers and us winning everything in sight, it’s delusional IMO. And only when he leaves will we realise just how much he brings to the table.

We’ve far bigger problems in the team to address than Tav.

Evening tav..

Because people think one man dictates whether a team wins or loses trophies.

Even when that man is one of the few contributing. And now he's had a few weeks not contributing we can see that the goals and points dry up.

It's bizarre. Bordering on an obsession from some.

Meanwhile guys like Cantwell who produce zero in the big moments get lauded.

He’s one of our highest salaries
He’s a senior player
He’s part of our leadership group
He’s part of the mentality and tone in our squad

It’s not a great shock

It’s not always entirely his fault but fans are just fed up now, they want change, they want something new and feel stuck in a cycle of repetition

To most fans Tav, Goldson and Lundstram just look like shite results now.

Aye nae bother Tav. Your goal contributions are fantastic. Your defending and leadership qualities are not anywhere close to the standard required.

Because Rangers captains don’t ever accept second best, but he seems genuinely quite happy to do so. I’d have an ounce of respect for him if he resigned the captaincy and accepted the shoes are too big for him to fill.

We’ve relied on him in an attacking sense for years.

He’s clearly no longer physically capable of doing it, which was predicted by many last summer.

He’s tiring badly towards the end of this season, too many times now we’ve expected him to play 50-60 games without issue.

And now he’s not producing a positive attacking output, we look absolutely lost as to what to do. The other “creative” players in the team are letting us down.

Tom Lawrence? F*ck me. Absolute murder.

It’s the simple solution readily available to people. Never mind the shit show from 8 of the other players (Sterling and Butland are exempt tonight) or the frankly baffling managerial decisions, the lack of tactics or style. ItS tHe RiGhT bAcK that’s the problem. 3 or 4 threads on him tonight.
Many posts by the same people who suck up his arse when he bails us out multiple times a season as well.

If we had that we wouldnt be playing a right back who continually gets caught out of position and cant defend.
So we keep our fullbacks in our own half, remember GvB tried that and we went mental, 'take the handbrake off' was the shout at the time.
You do know that it is possible to have midfielders scoring goals and attacking full backs in Scotland?

I can see your point, but he wasn't great tonight. No one was, so I guess we're stuck with a team that isn't as good as we thought they were. We should have walked that game. Problem is, when anyone plays against Rangers, they make it their cup final. No excuses for tonight's awful performance though

You do know a right backs primary job is to defend and support his centre back? Not leave them high and dry.

Not really, though.

Why didn’t we win the European Cup in the 90s? We had pure staunch Proddies in the side. Did they not do enough leadershipping? How did it go so wrong?

We sorely lack quality. Quality matters most, by a country mile. Tav is one of the few who have genuine quality, but he can’t dig it out 55 games a season.

Huge swathes of our squad cannot do the basics. That’s just fact, and what you get when you primarily focus on diddies from Norwich, Shef U, Derby etc.

John Greig was with us for what, about 16/17 years and won 5 league titles.

Thank feck social media wasn’t around back then with being second best fairly regularly.

I don't blame him for the result and I don't see how it's so difficult for people to see Tav is a very good player who unfortunately has played for us during a really bad era for the club. That can happen.

However, he's 33 next year and sometimes situations just need a freshness and a change.

I think we need a younger and fresher core group. The mood music around him and Goldson etc is just really negative. To deny that is just as daft as blaming Tav for every single setback.

How many goals come from our right hand side? Teams actively exploit it because they know its a weakness.

Are you having a laugh? Lost count of the number of important goals we have lost with him out of position and trotting back. He ha, without doubt scored a huge number of goals, but he is never a right back nor a captain

What has Tavs goals actually won us?

Because rightly or wrongly we’ve made our right back our talisman an we’ve run him into the ground.

Can we rely on or expect any of the other shysters to step up?

Tav dictates play he takes all throw ins and he takes all corners . Our style of play is dictated by everyone trying to give him the ball down his side , he's not the player he was when it comes to crossing or passing .
Id much prefer not to be relying on one player who's best days are behind him .
That's before getting to the fact that he needs someone covering his arse constantly as he is up the park and can't make it back .

People don’t seem to want to accept that we simply have a squad full of players that aren’t good enough. We’re never going to win a title with a squad full of players like Davies, Matondo, Dessers, Wright, Lawrence and Silva etc

Continually getting your hopes up that they’re going to achieve something they aren’t capable of is madness. It’s like entering a wee 3 legged scabby dug for crufts and then shouting “BAD BOY” at it when it doesn’t win.

Take the anger out on the board and the recruitment team. It’s them that have failed miserably since the 55 season.

You make a reasonable point but OP, he is the captain, he has been at fault for a number of goals and he completely folded once again against Celtic. A Rangers captain simply can’t get away with that I’m afraid.

He is far from our biggest problem, but he will never be the solution either so it’s time to do something else.
