Kicking The Ball Upfield

While we are having a rant tonight can I just ask a very simple question?
Today was the first time I can remember McGregor getting the ball and launching it upfield as opposed to normally rolling it out and building from the back.
Was this a tactic or a result of us being wary of Hearts closing us down quickly?

Goodness knows but punting the ball up field when everyone is playing deep doesn't work. The only time the long ball worked was when Goldson fired it up to Hagi and we got a goal from it. Other than that very positive thing it was useless and usually is.
