As Britain adjusted to a rather different kind of life during the Second World War, there were one or two innovations introduced which were to have a lasting effect on the game in Scotland, not least the Summer Cup which could be considered to be a frontrunner for the current League Cup. The Summer Cup was introduced in 1941 with Rangers' first game in the competition a visit to Brockville where they won the first leg 3-2 in front of a crowd of 10,000
