Motherwell and Ross County defeats

1-1 after 60 minutes at Ibrox against Motherwell and we manage to lose.

1-0 up at half time against Ross County and collapse and lose.

Absolutely criminal to drop 6 points against two bottom half teams when in control of the games before crumbling.

What's the problem now that we didn't have for the months previous to these results? It's virtually the same players but nothing like the same energy or quality.

Cortes I'd say is a big miss and losing Sima but that can't excuse the defence and midfield just dissolving recently.

Blips or are we in for more of the same until the end of the season?

You can throw those defeats in with Aberdeen, Kilmarnock and the 2 OF losses as unnecessary and costly. You have to judge the whole season, not just take a couple of recent results and say that's where the whole season was defined. Plus...it ain't even over yet!

We have lost two of our last four league games to Motherwell and Ross County.

And that's after winning at Easter Road and Rugby Park which are much harder games.

Factually correct.

We've had poor defeats at various stages thru the season though. The results you mention aren't any more defining than the earlier losses. They just feel like it more right now because they're more recent.

got a goal back with 2 minutes to play ,then board showed 7 additional minutes, we created next to f@ck all in that time, we arsed about at the back, threw aimless crosses into the box that they dealt with comfortably and had absolutely no craft or guile to cause them problems, in the end they saw us of with relative ease

If we play anything like today then definitely.

What has actually changed though? We were playing really well not that long ago and now look utter shite.
The question is habitually met with accusations of serial losers and bottle merchants, and that does have to be considered, but you can also see that our passing, movement and positioning has deteriorated rapidly over the last month or so and that’s always the job of the manager to sort out, IMO.

The sign of a really good manager is one that gets his sides bouncing back immediately after poor results so that they appear as isolated blips on an otherwise good run of form.

Sadly since beating Hearts at the end of February we haven’t looked anything like as convincing in any game since and have now dropped seven points in our last four games including two defeats to bottom six sides.

If Clement is the real deal he’ll find a way to get us winning again, but it’s difficult to shake the feeling after today that we’re back in the same never-ending cycle that’s seen off the last two managers.

No point in torturing ourselves over it.

There's never an ideal team, time or manner in which to drop points.

Just got to hope for a reaction.

We have been poor most games even before Motherwell. It has been coming for a while.

I just don't get it.

It seemed like Clement had them playing good stuff and there was an energy and a passion in the side.

Are the players bored of another manager or just off form at the same time?

The results are bad enough but the passing etc is genuinely woeful just now.

Defence has fallen apart and those who were choking in with goals have stopped. Not having a good striker has cost us the chance to win this league, it was a criminal decision.

A goalscorer probably masks most of our problems and gets us a treble.

We have Dessers instead who misses chances that are easier to score.

Agreed. It’s surely the manager’s job to look at where we’re going wrong and work with the players on the training ground, collectively and individually to improve both them and performances.

When we’re making the same errors in consecutive games without improvement then you do start to wonder if the manager is getting through to them.

We can all agree that several of our players just aren’t good enough while several more are clearly past their sell by dates so it’s to Clement’s credit that he’s managed to get a tune out of them at all, but the Groundhog Day weariness of hoping that another summer will finally bring the changes and the quality we need can’t be lost on anyone.

It’s f**king depressing, man.

That and the fact we can’t beat Celtic.

Wednesday night is no stroll in the park either.
Dundee are a far better team than County and the pitch is a mess. Can quite easily see another shambles unless the manager and players have a massive change.

Theres no structure to us under Clement its long ball and hoof it into a box Dessers is crap but the way he had us set out to play it was mental taking him off and not putting a CB up there to get on the end of the hoofs

Its like a mix of Pedro and Beale at the moment

Not sure where you get this from. Things are close because their form has been ropey as well. The first two old firms paper over the cracks for them.
And last week then today has just given them a massive boost. They may have lost a lead last week but we failed to beat them yet again in what was really a must win game.

They won’t go into any of these games resting their best players and will play the same team with the same setup whereas we are chopping and changing every week.

We keep crossing balls into the penalty box, when we’re up against your typical Scottish giant centre backs. Same with corners - no variation, just high balls into the box. Martindale told us this is what we do, and even said it was easy to deal with. There’s no point in Goldson coming up for corners, even if he wins the header, it’s always off target.

I get that from how we’ve played since the Motherwell game bud. I would loved to have papered over the cracks by beating them but looks like a full season again without a win against them. It’s sickening!

It’s been like this for ages now, we have just been scraping by with only a few good performances over the course.

Our football and setup under Clement is mental. No control over any game.

There isn’t one player on form, the manager won’t drop the under performers and performances don’t change at the flick of a switch.

Dundee will be up for this on a terrible park. An absolute battle.

We are on course for a worse points total than last season. We are only in this title race because Celtic had a massive wobble which they seem to have got over in recent weeks while we are getting worse.

I said at the time that the Motherwell game could be one we look back on with absolute horror come the end of the season.

You can now throw today into that mix for good measure.
For me the Motherwell defeat spelt the end of our title aspirations posted it at the time today simply meant that I was sadly right. 6 points lost to abject dross.

Confidence in football players is a very fragile commodity, even more so in a squad of them. Difficult to maintain and very easy to lose.

The lack of confidence among our defenders to control a game, maintain a high line and play forward passes was on the decline before Motherwell (Ross County and Aberdeen produced moments which dented confidence) but that Motherwell defeat took it to a new low. Ever since they have looked like rabbits in the headlights and consequently the midfield in front of them have become panicky and deeper.

Coinciding with a total drop off in confidence in front of goal from our regular strikers and it has been the perfect storm. The writing has unfortunately been on the wall for a number of weeks

I couldnt believe the Motherwell game. We were so open, giving them so many chances.

Rangers got 92 points during 2022/23 season.
We need to win every game to match that points total this season.
Doing that of course wins us the league but huge huge ask.

That’s why I said we were on course because there is no chance we win all of our remaining games.

We were poor at Killie, fortunate that they missed a sitter/great save from Butland to stop us going two down.

In reality, good 90 minute performances have been rare.

Complacency and misplaced arrogance throughout the dressing room.

Actually more surprised when I checked it before replying how well we done points wise last season. Been a massive drop of from both sides this year.

Our captain and vice captain are perennial losers and have been two of our poorer performers for some time now. Our defence minus the keeper is awful. Even he is starting to have the rest of the defence start to rub off on him. We were saved from a hammering today by some awful finishing from Ross County. Although I suppose some of that was balanced up by our abysmal performance in their box too.

Goldson needs dropped for Wednesday. If we weren’t riddled with injuries our captain should be sitting beside him on the bench. The first half performance from him today was desperate and completely unacceptable. Second half wasn’t much better, some might say worse with the goals. They’ll be seeing off another manger before too much longer.

The OF teams seem to have swapped form now, rather worringly.

We look mince and devoid of winning games, they are the opposite now.

As another poster said, whats happened?

Connor Goldson is the reason we’re gonna loose this league.

You called it .. Energy

At the motherwell, there was zero movement up top, just waiting for the ball to be lumped in the box. Getting caught on the break

And we were not even conceding any chances, let alone goals. Its mad. The regression is crazy hence people are fairly thinking it’s a total bottle job
