I get it that the feeling is if a player can play at championship level they should be good enough for the SPFL but you are right we are overloaded with this type of player. For the last 7-8 years the majority of our recruitment has come from this league and I think this has become an issue.
A league where you can lose a lot of games and still be successful. Look at Norwich this season. P43 W21 D8 L14 and are still on course for the play offs.
I think a lot of these players dont appreciate how much of a disaster it is just drawing 1 game in Scotland can be. They don't have a winning mentality.
Also it's a market that you have to massively overpay in for a questionable level of quality.
It needs to stop.
This is a festering issue that needs to be addressed before we worry about anything else, and it's not even that they don't have resale value, it's their wage expectations become so beyond their worth that we often can't even flog them for nothing. The wages we are paying for bog standard Championship players with no resale value is mental
Someone needs to explain to me how guys like Ben Davies and Tom Lawrence are trousering nearly £30k a week each and how it's justifiable to us overall.
Was in another thread that 7 of the top 10 earners in Scotland play for us.
Celtic have three guys on £25k a week or more. We have NINE. And very few of them have any resale value bar the goalie. It's insanity.
We also need them from a European squad perspective. There no doubt though that players like Hickey, Doig, McGinn (yes I know he wouldn’t have signed for us), and even the often slated and debated McKenna, Porteous and Ferguson would have had the right level of effort and commitment that’s too often been missing from our recent starting lineups.I would genuinely rather sign the best of Scottish players we are linked with but our fans constantly turn their noses up at.
They really aren't any worse than the dross from the championship and would cost a fraction of the wages, and at least they would get the win or nothing culture.
Latest development with Lewis Ferguson makes him a probable target.I get it that the feeling is if a player can play at championship level they should be good enough for the SPFL but you are right we are overloaded with this type of player.
We should stop looking down our nose at players in this league.Miovski and Shankland up front or Lammers and Dessers for example its a no brainer. We let Lewis Ferguson slip through our hands too.
Whilst celtic were/are winning trophies with players such as: Furuhashi, Hatate, Abada, Carter-Vickers, Maeda, Johnston, Taylor, Iwata, Kuhn, Yang, Scales, Ralston.
They have also had a number of injuries this season.
We literally signed them from Premier League teams. Are you claiming that Goldson and Sterling were EPL players!??
Do you think it’s any different in Japanese, Korean or Chinese leagues? For the last 7-8 years the majority of our recruitment has come from this league and I think this has become an issue.

Splitting hairs a bit here. Point is, across our squad, they've spent the majority of their career playing in the Championship. In fact in Goldson's case he barely played that level either. A very low level of footballerWe literally signed them from Premier League teams.
