Our recent record vs Celtic

We are a disgrace v Celtic, no balls. We should be aggressive, win, lose or draw. That 1st half in the last match was terrible viewing, they should have been 4 up. Getting really annoyed with our approach in these games.

Some of the players look beaten coming out the tunnel at Parkhead.
And it’s this, along with the aforementioned recent record of two wins in thirteen, that makes me accept we can’t turn this 3 point gap around in these last 5 games.

These players just don’t have the mindset to go there and not wilt in front of 60,000 of them and their rabid team.

2 wins out of 13, 1 being a total dead rubber under Michael Beale and the other being in extra time under Giovanni Van Bronckhorst at Hampden.

How do we change this especially heading to the piggery on May 11th and of course that massive Scottish Cup Final on May 25th? It’s clearly a massive mental block. Does it require personnel change? An extra man in midfield? Maybe even both? Tav looks genuinely petrified at the thought of a headless chicken like Maeda coming at him especially off the ball and that seems to set the tone in these games just now.

Change it by winning. No slow starts & being afraid.

Play the game in their half. That means long goal kicks, balls down the channels and getting their defenders on the turn for our pacier players to get in behind. High pressing is a must, man for man, with Souttar dropping in to replace Lundstram on the press. Force Hart to kick it long to their small forwards. Especially for the first 60 minutes. If they beat the front press, then they are still 60 yards from our goal, which is better than them turning it over on the edge of our box. They will be flying out the traps as they usually do against us, and we can’t keep doing the same brain farts trying to play out.

The ball gets turned over quickly in OF games, and we are not good enough to play through them for the entire game, as they are capable of turning it over, one pass then goal. Once the game stretches out, then we can go and play a bit and get better possession . Until then, play practically, and keep the ball away from our box, and hopefully we can take advantage of any slip ups in their defence, which will happen with a bit of pressure applied.

Any other tactic than the above is madness, and the last few seasons of OF games proves that. Get to the hour mark still in the game, and we can go and win it.

Being saying this for months. Even in the home games that would be my approach. Seeing Butland start a goal kick with Goldson and Souttar either side to him is just playing into their hands.

They completely dominate play from the first minute, then we concede a crazy goal, then the collapse occurs. We need to score first in these games to get anything.
We didn't score first in the last game.and got a draw, we also scored 4 goals against them in the second half (one ruled.iut for a foul aboutb10.mins before we scored)

The first game of the season , we scored a perfectly good goal the was chopped off (this would have been a completely different game)

The last one a Parkhead we should have had a penalty , it was as clear as say (again completely different game)

This narrative that we "shit the bed" is just a route that some take to have a go at Tav, Goldson and Lunny.

I honestly think some on here would take us not winning the league if it meant these 3 players would be gone next season .

The negativity on here is odd the scale.

Its old hat now but Lundstram, Goldston and Tav and our midfield selections dont turn up.
Insanity is doing the same thing over and over expecting different results.
Big changes required im afraid.
Goldson and lundstrum for me can’t start

Balagon and Sterling gives us so much more pace power and will to win

Fans who are dead set against these players leaving and think we’d fall apart without them should really go back over those games and look at how bad these guys were for a lot of the goals conceded. We can appreciate their service, but it’s surely time to go our separate ways.

2 wins from the last 13 Old Firm games (one a dead rubber league game) is shitting the bed.

We have far too many fans who accept this mediocrity and as seen above even make excuses for it.

These players are afraid of Celtic, they’ve had so many kickings off them that they’re mentally scarred. Tav shows signs that he’s risen above it with goals against them down the years, but we have ONE league title to show in his 9 years here.

It’s not “negativity”, it’s fact.

It won't stop until we stop giving away ridiculous goals. Celtic have no fear about playing us knowing they are guaranteed at least one goal from us.

If that changed I suspect they wouldn't know what to do.

our leaders look terrified against them until we’re 2-0 down and then start waving there hands about and start to play, Pack the midfield with 3 actual midfielders not people who came where as forwards like e and Lawrence

Rattle McGregor he is the key as was Lennon and Brown they dictated the play . We need someone to match his runs everywhere he goes they go

Stop gifting them goals. We seem to have a bad habit of that.

Match them up in the middle of the park for a start. Keep giving the midfield away.

I’ve said for decades that OF games are normally won in the midfield battle

Agree completely with this post

The reality is we had a three year purple patch in OF games since we've been back in the league and it was down to one man and one man only - Steven Gerrard.

Pre Gerrard - 0 wins, 2 draws, 9 defeats
Gerrard - 8 wins, 1 draw, 4 defeats
Post Gerrard - 2 wins, 3 draws, 8 defeats

2 wins in 24 games without him as manager is beyond pathetic. It's shameful.

Gerrard hated them. He understood the mentality required to win derbies.

It has been clear that we need a better plan in Of games, certainly until we get better players or get back on top against them. I said it nearly 2 years ago, and we are still making the same errors in these games.

We do them same every game

Sit off them, give them the midfield, lose a goal or two

Then we start pressing them, realize best form of defense is attack and try and salvage the game

It’s terrible. We look petrified against them every time, parkhead especially.

With the lack of players available, itll be a miracle if we win this league.

I don’t trust us to win most of them anyway. You just get the feeling some of this lot have one almighty shiting of the bed to come against that lot in a few weeks to see them out the door.

Going long and squeezing the game certainly first 45 mins at their dump feels like a move smith would make with our current squad. PC has to show he learned a lot from our first visit there.

We need to change the mentality of the team. They have multiple medal winners (McGregor, O'Riley & Hatate) plus Maeda, who does the work of two people) strolling around and bossing the midfield. From the second they enter the park, they believe that they're going to win. We have a team of serial losers, with one or two medals in the cabinet. We need to think like winners, play like winners and fight like winners. As Sterling noted the other day - he's not even sure if the belief is there?!
They had similar when Gerrard was our manager and he seemed to be able to set us up to beat them regularly.

Maeda looks to be out thankfully (for Tav).

I'm sure we will find another to shite ourselves though.

Midfield as usual will be key. And needless to say, taking our chances when they come as this Celtic side will give us chances.

Bad news I’m afraid.

Their players have ridiculous powers of recovery where ours are just ridiculous…

We need pace, energy and dynamism in midfield

Clement made a huge blunder playing Sterling at LB for the last game, given he absolutely dominated the midfield at the Piggery in the December fixture

Midfield three should be:

Sterling - Jack - Diomande
If Sterling is to play at all it must be in midfield. Play a youngster at left back ahead of Barisic.

Match them up in the middle of the park for a start. Keep giving the midfield away.
Our defence especially right sided not giving goals away will do for a start , also Goldson which looks like being addressed

Our last 20 games v them.

8 wins
8 defeats
4 draws

As mentioned play an actual midfield with midfielders, play players in their positions.

Celtic play us like a fiddle, 3 man midfield, two wingers told to stay wide just run all day, a 9 through the middle, all playing off our mistakes, and against them we make plenty.

Our last two wins

Jack Lundstram, Raskin, - Jack Lundstram Ramsay

Our last 3 draws

Diomande Lundstram Lawrence - Tillman, Lundstram, Kamara
Lundstram Davis Arfield

Sterling has played LB twice LW once 2 defeats and a draw
Cantwell 5 starts in “midfield” 4 defeats and a win.
A fine analysis. Good attention to detail mate

How many of the games did match officials influence their success?

No we ask the Sfa to recruit fair-minded match officials!

The Tim root worked though and have given them a bias advantage, their answer death threats to match officials, smashing windows, threat Sfa with a lawyer, place their own in influential platforms in the media, tabloids and within the SFA!

Dead rubber? No OF game is considered a dead rubber!

You’d think Alex Rae would clue Clement up with regards to these games and games gone by, especially about winning the midfield battle. Sadly I think he’s another one who’s just grateful of being employed putting out the cones and keeping his mouth shut.

I think we had lost a cup final and a semifinal in quick succession and the only real thing at stake that day was Beale having to show he had the ability to field a team that could beat them but the games that would've got us silverware we lost.

Since liewell got control of the sfa & spfl he gained control of refereeing in Scotland.
For years now , septic have been enabled to play in a certain way , that however subtle , definitely influences games .
Their ridiculous high press at times where they know if they don't win the ball and the other team breaks they are enabled to commit a professional foul to allow their team to regroup. That professional foul tactic they use , very seldom gets punished in a meaningful game in Scotland and happens on a ridiculously obvious amount of occasions per game . The professional foul , taking one for the team is part of the game that you're only allowed one of, as a first yellow card should be issued . septic get away with this tactic with impunity.
septic don't get away with this tactic in Europe as they don't have the power on that stage to influence.

A lot of this is valid but we don't exactly help ourselves either. We've been pathetic against them in far too many games since Gerrard left. He wasn't perfect but he certainly had no fear of them and that was instilled in the players for a long time. I don't understand why that changed.

My friend my point was every game against them means something even if just winning the points for bragging reasons!

Doesn't really matter if it is against them or others domestically especially we the fans demand full effort and expectation of winning every game regardless of knowing deep down it is easier to have expectations than to know the reality of how hard it is to produce that outcome!

We always put the bar up high for our players to reach anyway! What we really want and is acceptable is to see our players give everything out there and play for the jersey as it represents all of us as one!

What we also want is a match officials level field to keep our game true and that my friend we all know is sadly lacking because of one clubs influence!

Real cancer of our game
A club that has no problem projecting itself with their fans on to others whilst they use their ideals and perception of moral standards which has and continues to damage our game!

It's ok to break the rules if you are Celtic and have placed influencers within the platforms of power in the game! Witnessed it with High Heels comments followed by threats of a lawyer!

Modern day open bribery
They and their supporters within punditry, media and tabloids have no shame by using bribery to get the results or help they need and have used to get a number of recent trophies over the seasons also with protection on the park for the players wearing their colours!

Bribery yes, not the kind of pushing brown envelopes in the pockets of match officials but the new modern form of open bribery tolerated by an infiltrated footballing institution to the degradation of our national sport!

Yes this is a new bribery in the form of using fear, fans threat of death or other to referees, going to homes smashing windows intimidating match officials families!

Excessive analysis on selected issues or topics that are constantly being redefined by them for their narrative and put out there to their masses who then use to spread on social and all to undermine and frighten match officials to give favourable decisions to help and ensure they get a free route to win them trophies in the sport of football! Did I hear them right? Integrity? Huh? Seriously Hmm!

Possibly one of the stand out match pressure this past season the penalty to rangers campaign by the mentally challenged used to stop us getting penalties that are penalties and sadly it has worked which also shows how and why media and VAR operators over analyse before making final decisions?

To the mentally challenged it should be no penalty even if it really is!

Sorry friend my comment turned from a sentence to a paragraph then book after taking a life of its own there lol

I just hate to see what they have done to our game by destroying the integrity they proclaimed to protect?

Diabolical, fed up with all the excuses and Liewells referees , bottom line is our players are not good enough that includes fans favourites Tav, Goodson and pathetic loans over the years. Rant over.

Took him about 14 games to score his first goal against them - despite numerous chances.

Kyogo, on the other hand, has had 2 shots against us in 2 games, and bagged them both.
The wee cheat scored 7 goals against us in the calendar year of 2023. Having defenders competent enough to track his movements and ballsy enough to go through him when the moment arises will be key to be beating them

And as you suggest, we need our own centre-forward who can do similar damage to them on a consistent basis. We've had too many toothless strikers when it comes to this fixture.

We are a disgrace v Celtic, no balls. We should be aggressive, win, lose or draw. That 1st half in the last match was terrible viewing, they should have been 4 up. Getting really annoyed with our approach in these games.

That was probably the worst 45 I’ve seen against them in decades.

Worse than the 0-3 at the piggery.

Half time and Brendan Rodgers saved us from an absolute doing.

Mention it many times on here before, work with a mentally challenged he was glad Rodgers left and didn’t want him back. He said if they went in 2-0 up you’d be as well going home as in the main he seen it job done didn’t take risks. Had that been Posticoglu they’dve came out for the second half 100 miles an hour like they did at the start. Rodgers arrogance is always his undoing.

We could argue, first game at Ibrox our perfectly good goal should have stood. The momentum was with us. Going by free kicks and penalties given to celtic VAR should have at least asked for a review of the Maeda barge on Cantwell.

The game at the piggery, we had the Johnston handball fiasco.

The draw at Ibrox, another goal wrongly ruled out.

There is a real pattern emerging of decisions all going one way, and a serious lack of yellow/red cards for Johnston (who seems to be involved in more penalty controversy than anyone else in Scotland).
I get there are suspect refereeing decisions but we were miles off in all 3 games at various times, to the point where that mob could barely believe their luck.

We show them far too much respect, give them nothing.

We also gift them a goal pretty much every game.

Cut these two factors out and we are in with a chance.

Gerrard had their card marked as he made sure we won the midfield every time. He'd pinpoint their danger men and make sure they never got space to move. He also instilled a swagger in the team that got them confident they were better than them. However, we've quickly reverted back since he left and now can't get a result v them even in games where we play reasonably well.

Match them up in the middle of the park for a start. Keep giving the midfield away.
We need more bodies in the middle of the park than them. Like it or not, they’re stronger in that area than us.

Gerrard used to play 3 grafters in there - Jack, Kamara and Davis. No need for them to go too far forward and keep control of the ball.

If we can find a way to get Lundstram, Dio and Sterling in the middle, with Cantwell a bit further forward and just 1 wide player, then we should be able to control the game.

As well as being decent, you need players that really f#ckin hate them and treat them as the scum they are. I can barely remember the last time someone put a solid tackle in on one of them. Think it might have been balogun when he was playing at RB up against the diving ratbag furuhashi.

And it’s this, along with the aforementioned recent record of two wins in thirteen, that makes me accept we can’t turn this 3 point gap around in these last 5 games.

These players just don’t have the mindset to go there and not wilt in front of 60,000 of them and their rabid team.
Common sense and logic tells you that they don't have it in them.

Our captain is shit scared of Meada who is a terrible footballer.
