Scotland squad - right backs

John Carver has confirmed that Hickey and Patterson are both out. Who should Clarke take? Is Ralston the only option?

Ralston will definitely make the squad.

Any ringers or outsiders at right full back?

Forrest will have to make the squad for some width then.

Likely then that O'Donnell will get a shout. Has Mayo played much at right back? Struggling to think of any others.

I'm sure we will go with a 3 at the back to get Tierney and Robertson in the team who then plays rwb is anyone guess as has been said not a lot of options

James Tavernier is eligible for Scotland due to residency. But the SFA, FAW, FIA and FA entered a "gentlemen's agreement" not to take each other's players using residency. Which is wild considering that it only really benefits England as any player good enough will play for the other 3 NT would get a call up, England the only one who would have players good enough for the others but not themselves.

Names getting mentioned are Ross McCrorie who has been playing rwb for Bristol City and Max Johnston now at Sturm Graz from Motherwell. Either would surely be better options than Ralston?!

Think McCrorie will be in with a shout of going, played RWB all season. Don't think Max Johnston will go as he's barely played.

Still expect Ralston to start which is a dire position to be in.

Fairly obvious now that England are not going to call on Tav. Would appear that one of the best attacking right backs available to Scotland is denied an international cap because of this antiquated agreement.

Ralston where do you start.

Agreed but being on the bench in the PL compared to the Austrian is slightly different.
How does that work?

No/limited game time is the same in any league. The quality may be different but that doesn't matter if the player is sitting getting skelfs in his arse.

Can’t agree with this, at all.

One league is obviously a far higher level than the other with the other two players in far better squads than the other, ergo it’s more difficult to get game time.

Unless Clarke can pull a rabbit out of the hat and convince Livramento, pretty sure will be McCrorie and Ralston who go. A really dire state of affairs from what had previously looked a pretty strong positon. Forest will be in the squad as well but he won’t be played there unless chasing a game late on.

It’s a real blow to Scotland and a shame for both players missing out. Got to feel for Paterson in particular - was barely getting a look in at Everton then got injured in the last minute after coming on as a sub in the in a game they were getting pumped by Chelsea.

I think getting into the team at Arsenal is slightly harder than at Sturm Graz but maybe that is just me.

Totally agree however the point being, what difference does it make to pick a guy from League A over League B when neither are playing?

Neither will be fully match fit.

Right but a non match fit Arsenal player is of a different level to a non match fit Sturm Graz player even if neither is ideal.

These Euros are going to be a long slog for Scotland.

Must be good odds on on zero points and zero goals.
Think they will score but the group is deceptively tough especially with the injuries they have. A shame as there is a decent chance that 1 win gets you to the knock outs.
