Jermaine Defoe scores at least 2 in that 2nd half

The same Defoe that can’t get near a dreadful League One Sunderland team?

Doubtful unless you’ve got a time machine handy.

If McCoist plays today he’d have scored 4. He didn't though because he retired many years ago. So what’s the point in spouting this mince? Defoe doesn’t play for us any more and he never played this season under 2 managers whilst he was still here.

We suffered from Buff being a bit heavy legged and tired today. He’s been so good and pivotal to our play recently that he was always going to play.

Wtfs the point in threads like this? We were meant to be clairvoyant enough to know we might need him 2 months after he left, for one single game where he might not have even got on? Or if he did even score anyway?

Honestly this type of logic is mental. You dont pay a 4th choice striker decent money incase one day you might need him.

You wanna talk to Sunderland fans about Defoe now? They loved him, but not right now because he's of no use on the pitch. Apropos to nothing, I don't think there's a more utterly pissed off fanbase in the UK right now than Sunderland.

Agreed.

A man who built a career of grabbing goals from nothing in and around the box and continued doing it with aplomb since the moment he arrived in Scotland.

Yes there were "legs gone" concerns due to his age, he's not Peter Pan after all, but 100% 39 year old Jermaine Defoe finds the net in that last half hour in Dundee today.

These are the facts that may come back to haunt gio, crazy decision letting this guy go, when these balls are bouncing about in the 6 yard box defoe was the man to put these teams to bed. Huge miss for us.
But …but …we have Itten back.
Like for like.
Surely.

Massive mistake.
Massive.

I am seriously beginning to doubt our board’s ambition, and seriously
Ross Wilson’s skill in the transfer market.

It’s not over yet, but sorry both have to be up for discussion, if we don’t retain the title.

TBH in games like today I would have preferred someone like DeFoe up front with a defensive midfielder taken off and Alfie could have played behind him or beside him.

I can't understand why we need two midfielders sitting back against teams like Dundee UTD, we should be attacking them with attacking minded players. We don't need Lundstrum and Jack in midfield, we could have dropped Lundstrum and played Sakala out wide with Arfield through the middle and been more attacking. We were playing Dundee UTD not Chelsea.

As much rubbish as the OP. If Defoe was playing the game would have been different.

The point of this is simple, we should have kept him, a mistake by gio imo.

The same guy who's managed 48 minutes over 4 games and most he's got so far is a yellow card?

He was finished and had to move on.

There's no evidence to back that up at all he scored 4 league goals last season 3 from the bench when games were already done. He was done in pre-season it wasn't the wrong move letting him go at all.

That's not a fact.

Aye so would have Derek Johnstone and Super Ally.......but they don't play for now us either.

Gerrard also chose not to play him.

So Gerrard, his entire back room team, Gio and his coaches all decided Defoe was done, are they all wrong?

If he was tearing it up at Sunderland in League One I could maybe understand the constant pining for him but he can’t get anywhere near their first 11 either, because as much as he has had a phenomenal career, he’s finished now.

In his time here how many games was he flung into that we were behind in or drawing and came on scored a goal that changed the game like you're claiming he would have done today?

‘Facts’, really?

He should check the 'facts' before stating it he came on as a sub in games that we were level in or behind in 12 times and we won... 0 so doubt that would have changed today.
How do you know it would have changed today?
