Just having a look on YouTube at some of our old European games
And sturm graz was one that I remember travelling over to Ibrox wondering what sort of atmosphere it would be like as I don't think I'd even heard of them before the draw .

Outside some of our key European victories ,probably the best European atmosphere I've been in as I just didn't expect it, the place was bouncing from start to finish

5 -0 , Ronald de Boer making his debut and just it seemed everything came off for us that night
And in Govan rear i genuinely could feel the stand moving .

Rangers 2 Hamilton 0 in January 1987.

There was a freeze that weekend, and it ended up the only top division game on, giving us the chance to go top of the table.

The worst referee in Scottish football history, Andrew Waddell, then sent off 2 Rangers players as we won 2-0 with 9 men.

Started as a straightforward day against bottom of the league opponents, ended up an amazing loud atmosphere which combined celebration at winning, defiance at having 9 men, and downright hatred for Waddell.

Leeds 1992.....I'm sure I was row E or F bang center behind the goal (broomloan). Noise as the teams came out was incredible. Great view of both the Rangers goals

Parma 1999.....copland front, again only 5 rows or so up...don't know if thats the reason why the atmosphere sounds so good when your low down

Man Utd 2003.....Govan front.....I can see a trend here.....

edit: just seen best atmosphere unexpected DOH!!!!!

unexpected

adjective

  1. Occurring without warning; unforeseen.
  2. Not expected; coming without warning; sudden.
  3. Not expected, anticipated or foreseen.

Some could do with reading this before posting crucial European games against top opposition or OF games.

The first game that came to my head was Warburton's first game against Burnley. We lost and it wasn't a raise the roof type atmosphere but more of a lifting of the pall that had hung over the club since the bad days of admin.

Yes good shout. I was there too.
Pretty sure Durrant was 2nd man off. Roberts maybe the first?

Hamilton.. think it was after the beat us n the Scottish cup.. maybee the season after.. sure Charney was playing for them.. n may have got sent off.. didn't help having a idiot of a referee.. waddell in the middle..

2-2 scum game, roberts in goal, goughies leveller and the noise when that went in....the Ibrox soundbarrier
I was working in Portsmouth that game with a guy that had been in Mexico for the World Cup following England, stayed and went to the final, got a ticket for the east enclosure, did a swap with my mate and took him into CR5, when he walked up the stairs up to the seats you could see the disbelief on his face, this is before kickoff, when Woods got sent off he says “don’t worry I’ve seen Roberts in goal for spurs, when Gough scored lets just say a certain chap from a small area in Rome was getting it tight from the young Englishman

Maybe not the actual 'best' but the 2nd leg v Inter Milan in 1984 was pretty decent considering we were 3-0 down from the first leg.

Only around 30k in the ground but made enough noise, as we won 3-1
Totally agree ,remember that as an 18 year old going to the game more in hope than expectation, turned out a tremendous night and atmosphere

Unexpected and we’ve got title wins, old firm games and champions league nights haha

Mark Hateley's return from QPR, against Dunfermline at Ibrox, was pretty special in my memory.

I think it was 4-0 and Hateley's goal was a great moment.

Preseason tournament at Ibrox in ‘94. Yes we were playing Man U but was some atmosphere for a preseason friendly. Cantona getting sent off helped.

“Waddell, Waddell, get tae f**k!”

It reverberated around the entire stadium for what seemed like an eternity.

He had to be escorted off by plod from what I remember.

The loudest I’ve ever heard Ibrox was during the penalty shoot out vs Maritimo, I think it was the Helicopter Sunday season, the noise when they went to take their penalties was absolutely deafening, no wonder we won it.
