The Standards Commission for Scotland is appointed by a cross Party group of MSPs (i.e. not by the Party in Government) this is designed to maintain its independence.

What is of more interest however is the lack of any reference to Susan Aitken or her pal in the Govan ward here:

It seems the Standards Commission has not actually investigated her, let alone cleared her of any wrongdoing

What may have happened is that her (and his) conduct has been investigated by the Commissioner for Ethical Standards in Public Life in Scotland who has determined not to refer the case to the Standards Commission for a full public hearing - its a bit convoluted but there you go.

The Commissioner for Ethical Standards in Public Life in Scotland is also appointed by a cross Party group on behalf of the entire Scottish Parliament. SO most certainly not by the Government. Its a crucial difference.

Someone more adept on Twitter really should send the Councillor the link and ask her why she is referring to being cleared by the Standards Commission when in fact they have not held any hearing into her conduct, nor have they any hearing planned in their work programme.

Rather then lying, I think she does not understand the process. Which in itself is a disgrace for the leader of Scotland's largest local authority.

You would think some one in her position should make it her business to know how these things work.

Just another idiot promoted on account of her rosette rather than her competence.

If taken at face value (doubt many will, I’m sceptical), what was the reason for it getting refused then after initial agreement?

She claims she doesn’t care what team anyone supports yet was part of a Facebook group that encouraged politicians got stuck for visiting Ibrox.

What you’ve got are politicians and journalists that can’t make it anywhere else and just follow the gravy train. No integrity. Makes for poor government oversight and we’ll all lose because of this. A nationalist dream. No one holds them to account.
 
SNP supporters are not normal people whether they are Rangers fans or not. Most of them will argue that black is indeed white despite all evidence to the contrary.

For instance on Twitter they argue back and forward with Ukdefencejournal about Royal Navy ships being built in Scotland. They say none are being built here and when confronted with conclusive evidence of ships being built they still say they’re right.

in conclusion if it’s not their version of the “truth” they’re not interested.
