Another €5 million in the Kitty

Should spend it to buy Tillman NOW and not wait until the end of the season

Buy him for how much???

There is a clause with an option to buy but it’s been kept hush due to the noise from people not wanting us to enter the loan market if there was not future option/planning.

I suspect the purchase amount will be outwith our reach unfortunately.

Tillman has barely played 10 senior games & was genuinely blowing around the 60 minute mark.

Aribo had 3 seasons with Charlton under his belt, daft comparison.
Tillman's best period of the game, by far, was the last 30 minutes when he moved the middle. Scored and was creating. Some fans get one aspect or experience in their head about players and run with it no matter what.

Trying to do a quick check on where we stand. Starts off with fact, ends with opinion.

All figures in euros.

Winning last night guaranteed us a buffer of the 5 million playoff loser payment plus 650k euro qualifying loser tv pool, plus a big gate against PSV. Makes a world of difference compared to last year.

Onto what happens next.

Qualifying for Champions League.

All clubs receive 15.6 flat rate starting fee.

The 10 year coefficient. If all seeded teams in playoff qualify, we will be bottom of the 10 year list.

We will only receive 1.1 million euro from this. 1 share.

The Scottish TV pool is 6.5 million. We will be due 2.9 million of this.

Qualifying is worth around 20 million euro total fees from UEFA.

We will be bottom seeds and likely to exit Europe after 3 matches, 3 home gates possibly a couple of points and a couple more million bonuses.

Losing and into Europa League

Playoff loser fee : 5 million
Playoff tv pool : 650k
Europa Flat Fee : 3.6 million
Europa 10 year coefficient share : We will be roughly 12th on the list. 21 parts x 132k : 2.7 million.

Total Champions League : 20 million (ish)
Total Europa League : 12 million (ish) (plus the opposition sadly get an extra 2.9 million TV pot)

The difference between being top seeded in Europa League and bottom seed in Champions League means we should be expecting to go last 16 at a minimum in Europa League, definitely 1 extra home gate and extra prize money. 10 points and winning the group is 3 million.

At the moment being bottom seeded in UCL is not as appealing in terms of what comes next for success and prize money. The two if it goes to seeding are not far short of balancing out. (Once you factor in the gate money aspect that is so important to us)

As years go on we should be looking at Pot 3 Champions League guaranteed and the 10 year coefficient possibly worth nearer 10 million. At that point we really want to be there in the UCL and Europa League is nowhere near it.

Good summary mate, cheers.

So essentially the difference will be £10m rather than £30m?

And given the extra revenue we made with the EL final run, it could well cut that more?

Mental that the money from the Champions League playoff is more than the group stages of Europa or Conference. Only get that money if we don't qualify for the Champions League group stage but nice to have more if we don't.
I think it’s ridiculous we wouldn’t get the playoff round money in addition to the group stage money, if we made it.

It’s extra games our players have to pay, additional chance of injury and suspensions.

Gio said we’ve done our business.

We won’t go out and spend that money.

Maybe allows us not to have a shite January again, but don’t see us adding now.

Need to get more out what we’ve got. Needs to click this week.
... unless someone leaves
(That hasn't been accounted for in leaving already)

I've thought all along Kamara could leave this window, and maybe if it allows us to bring in a partner for Lundstram it might be the best thing to happen for both parties.

He did improve when he moved centrally.

There was a 20-30 minute period after he made an ärse of the short corner when nothing would come off for him

Kamara needs a decent season under his belt for us to sell.

We’d have to take a reduced price just now, as he was largely shite last year.

Needs a good season in Europe for us, then he should be our big sell next summer.

So around £8m European revenue already (including gate receipts for 2 home games)

Already up a decent chuck of change compared to last season.

Bear in mind, if we make it into the group stages, the Scottish TV Market Pool money gets split between us and them (slightly in their favour) so It won't be quite as high a figure as people say. All in, it the group stages will still be worth around the £25-30m in revenue which is obviously huge. Potential for considerably more, you're looking at around £800k prize.money per point so a favourable group/results could be quite lucrative For context, the filth scored a glorious 3 points the last two times they made it, today worth £2.4m.

Also worth remembering, Europa League isn't exactly chumps change. If we make it to the Champions League group stages and finish 4th with only a few points, we will make less in total from Europe than we did last year. It's had a slight (~10%) increase in prize money from last year as well. If Hearts get pumped out, we will get the entire Scottish TV Market Pool share as well, we've split it with the filth the last few years. ~£180k a point is still pretty pish though. 14 points to get the same prize money as 3 from the Champions League. (We did actually achieve this points total in 20/21). A half decent group campaign (3 home games, ~10 points, 100% Market Pool Share) is still worth £13-15m in revenue,

I think best case realistic scenario, qualify for the Champions League, finish 3 with a decent haul of point and get into the latter stages of the Europa League. Would be looking at revenue well in excess of £50m.

Hes going to be lucky to get a game the way the squad is shaping up so could end up with even less next summer.

A 50 / 50 chance of CL football with the guarantee of EL Group stages. ? Whatever happens, its more dosh pouring into the club.

I agree in theory, but I'm afraid under GVB I don't see that good enough season coming mate.

I'd let him go, not a slight on the player at all - I just don't think he's suited to us anymore.

And we really could do with someone to partner Lundstram permanently.
Jack and Davis should be used sparingly imo.

The easy way and the Rangers way-our fourth attempt at CL Qualification in a calendar year with Malmö, finishing 2nd in the League and then the EL Final.

We are doing this!!!

Your definition of “playing” & mine are clearly quite different.

It’s a huge jump to go from barely playing to being the man & playing 40+ games. I would like another quality midfielder who can go forward.
He'll share the 10 role with Lawrence once Kent and Matondo are up to speed. He will end up starting between 30 and 40 games imo which will help him develop accordingly, not the 65 Aribo did last season. We effectively bought 2 players to cover Aribo's position, we won't be buying a 3rd.

Couple of upsets in the Champions path of the Playoff and that could knock us up another few million quid

We've also got to take into account you're probably looking at far higher gates in the UCL as opposed to the UEL

We're a formidable European team when it comes to Ibrox and there won't be many that want to come here, qualify and a decent draw and we could be looking at 7 points at home

Even with a horror draw, we'd still have to fancy our chances against a good number of the Pot 3 teams - sadly I simply can't see Benfica going out to Dynamo Kyiv to bump us up

I don't think finishing 3rd in a tough UCL group on 5/6 points is beyond us. I think Last 16 would be a bridge too far as it stands - but should be what we're working too

Some of our passing out from defence last night was shocking. Goldson at least twice , sands the same and the keeper. Not good !
Better teams would seriously have punished us !
Early season rustyness hopefully, however Goldson's frequency in giving the ball away at the moment is a concern considering his experience but not as frightening as the amount of headers won by the opposition in our box

Why?

It’s a parachute payment to soften the blow of not reaching the group stages.

It’s perfectly logical.
You play the extra games to reach the competition that the pampered sides don’t have to, risking injury to your players and suspensions, of course you should receive greater prize money.

How how many of them would risk not qualifying for a ‘parachute payment.’

Great work.

Not the huge difference between the numbers that you would think.

I think getting that guaranteed extra 5m last night was huge in that regard.

There was a 5 minute period where he couldnt pass the ball or clear it and put us under huge pressure and the chance they had 1 on 1, he literally let the guy receive the ball when in on goal and went the other way. Shocking defending.

He is a quality player but needs to buck his ideas up qnd quickly.

Buy him for how much???

There is a clause with an option to buy but it’s been kept hush due to the noise from people not wanting us to enter the loan market if there was not future option/planning.

I suspect the purchase amount will be outwith our reach unfortunately.
Been rumoured on here it is circa £4.5m. No idea if there is any basis for that however.

Logically if we say brought in a new keeper, we sell McLaughlin and I reckon even at 34 we could get £1m in for him to offset. Likewise if it was a forward sell Sakala or Roofe.

Nobody is going to pay us £1 million for McLaughlin & I also reckon we’ll struggle to ship Roofe & Sakala out.

The Rangers Review are saying the agreed fee is £6 million.

I think a decent Championship one would for a keeper with experience at a big club. That’s buttons. Sakala we’d ship based on his pace and goals/assists numbers. That will work fine in certain leagues and had worked for him in Belgium. Roofe is the bigger issue. But I still suspect a Championship team would take a chance on him at the right price.

I’m sure someone on here picked up from the accounts that the costs for actually hosting a home game are pretty high to the tune of a million pounds or so on a European night. Still a fair few quid brought in but not quite as much as you would expect
I think it was around £600k

If we could bring in a Barry Ferguson type to put beside Lundstram with Kent Tillman Lawrence/Matondo and Morelos ahead, that would be spot on in terms of blend.

Hopefully helps to tie down Alfie and Kent to new contracts. Gone ominously quiet on both fronts recently. That's more important to us than any more new midfield players in an already bloated squad.

Maybe need to speculate to accumulate. Don’t mean going mad but if management have a player in mind maybe better signing him asap especially if he helps is progress to CL group stage
Your not getting a player in now that’s going to integrate into a team structure etc in 5 days tbh but I agree that it could have been done earlier.
