Cifuentes update

Boyd supposedly heard rumours that the signing of Cifu was the idea that he would be sold on for big money within a year or two

Way thing are looking he will cost money to get rid of. I found it strange LA weren't that bothered he was going. I can see why now

I don’t think there is much truth in LA not being bothered he was going. This was a guy who won plenty awards over there and was always spoken about being one of the best young player in the MLS.

Brighton wanted to sign him not long before we did so there is talent there. On paper he should have been a beast for us in midfield but for whatever reason it’s not worked for him in Scotland. There’s a documentary on YouTube about him when he struggled from moving from his small town earlier in his career which is the only thing that makes sense with what’s happened here.

I’m pretty sure the league has only just started in Brazil.

I also seem to recall they club have an option to buy in the summer despite the loan running to the end of the calendar year.

He will be sold sooner rather than later.

I think people are going over the top in their assessment of him. There was panic when he was sent off and was doubtful for the cup final. We appealed the red card to try and get him eligible to play. I saw a few games where he impressed me. Never played enough to make a real assessment.

Played well home and away against Betis.

Hung out to dry against PSV. Ultimately, if a player isn’t able to settle, be comfortable and psychologically in the right mindset - their performance won’t be at its optimum.

I called him out as not good enough after seeing him twice and predicted he would be Beale’s James Sands.
I got pelters for it on here but he never looked like a player and I thought exactly the same about Sands after the same number of appearances.
The MLS is a level below the SPFL from a physical and speed perspective. The technicians from the MLS cannot adapt.
If they could, they would be playing in the EPL.

South America doesn't automatically mean class footballers.
Suriname is a South American country and they aren't known for their silky skills
Not strictly true, Suriname being a former Dutch colony has produced some of the greatest footballers to ever live.

Potential Suriname all-time XI:

GK: Michel Vorm
CB: Michael Reiziger
CB: Winston Bogarde
CB: Virgil van Dijk
RM: Clarence Seedorf
CM: Frank Rijkaard
CM: Ruud Gullit
CM: Edgar Davids
LM: Georginio Wijnaldum
ST: Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink
ST: Patrick Kluivert
Subs: Jeremain Lens, Eljero Elia, Orlando Engelaar, Royston Drenthe, Jeffrey Bruma, Mario Melchiot.

Majority born in the Netherlands

Beale told us how he had done all the background checks on the players and looked them all in the eye so he knew exactly the type of players he was signing? Surely he wasn't bullshitting?
Maybe he should have concentrated more on scouting them, doing due diligence on character & checking injury history rather than speed dating them

This transfer baffles me. I work and socialise with lots of Ecuadorian people and they assured me he was a quality player. Apart from one or two matches I haven't seen it. In saying that I would be astonished if we lose money on him. Think we will easily double what we paid

Did Beale not say 'Game changer' after he finally signed after weeks of speculation. Honestly what a walloper
I've steered away from the personal stuff on Beale but I concur he is a walloper as I've just learned he had a burner account to argue with Sunderland fans about the snubbed handshake :))

Seems to play as a 10 for Ecuador, but cannot see he has any of the qualities for that role

He was that ex celtic scout that recommended him he advised the Lurgan looney years ago of Cifuentes

Not just Beale. There were plenty of posters on here of the opinion that Cifu was exactly the type of player we needed & would take us up a level.

What that was based on, who knows?

Pals in the US or YT videos. Fans get excited about flashy sounding signings when they don’t know that much about players

I wish he had said Guyana instead of Suriname.

Sits awaiting a new list :)

Completely forgot about him, first I thought oh another long term injury then realised he is on loan. Hopefully we don’t see him again at the club another in a long line of bad decision making by the previous incumbent.

The broom is going to need replaced by the start of next season.

Do we think Clement could get a tune out of him - bearing in mind the effect hes had on other players in the squad?

I dont know.

I hear Beale told him that Rodeo Drive wasnt a patch on Edmiston Drive.....

No issue with him trying it, shows a bit of ambition to play at a higher level and further his ability so the whole “did he not know it’s cold?” stuff I think is rather daft.

I couldn’t go to America or Ecuador to play, Christ, I’d die in about two minutes with the heat. As others have said, if he moves on then there’s no way we should lose money on him.

Don't be surprised if he's a makeweight with Brighton for Sima. Can fully understand Cifuentes + ~£4M for Sima. Great deal for us.
