Xavi to remain as Barca manager

Strange one in a sense. Absolutely loved him as a player, so good - however this Barca side and situation overall are an absolute circus.

You’re right. Billions in debt new stadium no idea where the money is coming from.

Radio Marca have been saying this for the past 2 weeks. He'll probably have to a pay cut next season. Sad to see such a great player turned into a meme over here

Haven't they put a lot of money into the New Nou Camp?

Was in Barcelona last September and the Nou Camp was a building site
I was there the same month, and did the Museum Tour.
The features on the new stadium, basically stated that the Spotify sponsorship of it was significant in its development.
Never saw anything detailing how much they have put in mind you.

Xavi was starting to get cold feet for weeks now. Prior to the last two games he had turned it back round and his use of the younger players was making him love the job again.

I think he will want another year or two to make them a force again before handing over to Rafa Marquez.

Great to see Xavi stay on

I personally think he didnt want to leave in the first place but heard that there was a lot of behind the scenes people at the club that had a dislike for him have since went back on their words after he a sit down meeting with the board.

Effectively announcing he's leaving in a year's time.

Never seems to work out well for teams whose managers announce they are going well in advance.

He already said he was going at the end of this season. For me he was one of the best midfield players in recent times. Barcelona have been hamstrung with financial problems for years now with no sign of that changing. They suggest he's happy to stay and work with younger players rather than the transfer policy they have been following for the last few seasons.

Bayern, Liverpool and probably Man Utd looking for new managers in summer. If you're Barca, do you want to be competing with them in the current climate?

Barcelona tend not to go down the big name route and often promote internally (Marquez likely) or ex player

they simply have to go down this route again
squad filled with a load of home grown talent supplemented with truly exceptional superstars

currently a home for overpriced average players and those in the twilight of their careers

Can add AC Milan and maybe Juventus to that list as well.

How many elite available managers are there though for these clubs to get at the moment?

Ancelotti, Inzaghi and Pep aren't leaving their roles, Luis Enrique the same. Klopp is taking a break and Alonso has already decided to stay at Leverkusen

We now have a situation where Barca are desperate for Xavi to stay as the level of manager they want isn't there. Slot has a great chance of the Liverpool job and Ragnick will be babysitting Bayern for a year or two in the hope Klopp may want that job after his break.

If you were a manager like de Zerbi, Thiago Motta, Emery or even Postecoglu there is a real chance you could be in for a job that you wouldn't have ever expected due to circumstances.

Timing is everything in football and you wonder what Gerrard thinks of it all. He stays with us another year or so and due to how things have worked out all over Europe with manager positions he would likely be a shoe-in for the Liverpool job this summer.

For all that Barca are a perceived shambles they will be in the CL next season, were probably a red card decision away from facing Dortmund in this season's semis and would likely have been favourites to reach the final and will be moving into a newly revamped stadium soon.

They're obviously behind Real Madrid at the moment but there is no real shame in that. A Barca shambles differs considerably from most club's shambles.

Comparisons with Man Utd are well wide of the mark.

They also won the league last season so they're not a million miles away from competing with Real in the near future

That's quite the "what if" :D

They've been ran shambolically in recent years, I think even the most ardent Barca fan would concede that. La Masia continues to be a god send because they're reportedly looking at another summer of sales and free agents due to the financial situation.

There is no doubt they have been ran shambolically but they are nowhere near the level of shambles that Man Utd have been for over ten years.

They've been champions in three out of the last six seasons and like you say are still churning out unbelievable talent that could net them tens of millions.

For all the impending doom around their finances over the last two or three years, its doesn't appear to be hampering them as much as a lot of people perhaps predicted it would.

Current champions, 2nd place in La Liga at the moment, and quarter finals of the Champions League for the first time in a long time.

Just because they are a good bit behind a very good Real Madrid team doesn't mean that they have been ran shambolically in recent years. Laporta has been fighting fire due to the chaos created by the Bartomeu regime, and he has been doing it incredibly well. Barcelona have some incredible young talent in the team at the moment - Araujo, Cubarsi, Balde, Pedri, Gavi, Yamal, Lopez all between the ages of 16 and 22 and playing and starting regularly for a team who has just reached the quarter finals of the Champions League.

Luis Enrique is who they really want, but they'll need to wait for him to run down his contract at PSG as they can't afford to buy him out.
