Pena: Pedro knew about my drink problems

Looks like the club got stitched up here? I wouldn't want Pena back at the club, is there grounds for dismissal with these revelations?

As long as an employee has admitted / confronted their addiction; is receiving counselling / treatment for it; and remains clean whilst carrying out their employment duties - their employment status is protected in law. Any employer who dismissed an employee under such circumstances would get pasted to the wall.

The day Pena wiped his nose on our teams colours was the day I couldn't give a fúck what happens to him. He was sober and knew what he was doing, totally disrespected our club.

Article from before he signed, his problems were obviously there:

The 27-year-old Leon midfielder has been quoted in his homeland as being in negotiations with the Ibrox club, with manager Pedro Caixinha knowing him from his time as manager of Santos Laguna.

if Rangers were to snap up the player, known as 'Gullit' in his homeland for his resemblance to Dutch legend Ruud, they'd be signing a player with an extremely colourful background.

He's never been far from the headlines in his native land, after spells with Pachuca, Leon and Deportivo Guadalajara.

The player angrily hit out at rumours he was enjoying his partying lifestyle too much last year.

He said: "They tell so many lies about me. I have just started to ignore all the things coming out.

"It's just pure gossip. They say I am a drunk and I chase woman.

"Personally, I don't care. It doesn't hurt me because I know they are lies.

"But the truth is that kind of talk is doing damage to my family. I have children and they read that. I know it's not true, but they don't."

And his former manager at Guadalajara, Matias Almeyda, said: "I learned to love Carlos when he was at the club.

"He's an excellent guy, an excellent player, but he obviously had some episodes.

"I tried my best to help him. I told him I would do it because I loved him.

I've seen many players like him who have ended up badly and I don't want that with Carlos.

"I don't want him to waste his best years of football by partying.

"His friends need to help him too. If they turn up with beer and wine, they are not helping him."

The owner of the club, Jorge Vergara, later revealed why they decided to sell Pena back to Leon last year.

He said: "We supported him as best we could, but unfortunately the only environment where he feels comfortable is at Leon.

"We offered him personal therapy, with a specialist in his problems.

"I personally employed an Australian man who had very good results with other people...but not with him.

"He has made many personal decisions in his life that continue to generate problems."

Earlier this year, Pena was initially arrested after a suspected hit and run incident. He spent 12 hours in custody before he was released without charge, after narrowly passing a breath test, according to reports.

He later said: "It was a scrape, not a car crash. The media always talk about me as a person and never about my football."
Pena was also embarrassed when his wife's best friend gave an interview on national television to complain about the player's alleged womanising,

which had been widely reported in the Central American media.

He was also the subject of a lawsuit earlier this year by a woman who claimed he had fathered a child and paid no maintenance since she was born three years ago.

However, his football ability appears not be be in question and he has won 19 caps for Mexico. He played in the last World Cup in Brazil.

Wonder if some on FF are still demanding photographic evidence to support his many nights on the swally in Glasgow?
It is still one of lifes great mysteries. He was photographed buying a six pack in Mexico and players are continually being snapped in compromising situations, yet there is nothing concrete on Pena in Glasgow. Baffles me given this admission from him.

I wish him well though.

What’s your point here?
The point?
We have a player who practically from day one choose to live his
I don’t think you can blame people for being sceptical though, the forum is loaded with bullshitters and attention seekers and in this day and age you very rarely have these sorts of goings on without videos and pictures being plastered all over social media.

Ultimately the stories appeared to be true, but I see why people wanted proof.

Bottom line is, I hope the guy gets help. I’d be stunned if he’s ever given another crack at playing for Rangers though. One thing that does disturb me, is that whilst struggling with alcoholism he was still a far bigger goal threat than just about every player in our team at that time.

trust me.
I was at a night in 29 in Glasgow and the bold boy was there, we played 2 days later and I assumed he was injured, thought nothing of it.
This was 1 month after he signed.
I however respect that he has now admitted he has problems and wish him well
All going well we might if he screws the nut recoup at least some monetary return.

Mate,
Pena was a jakey boozebag before we signed him and he'll still be one long after we finish paying him.

He's a waster.
Maybe so. It's obviously not looking good. But my point is it's often the most troubled that have the most talent and if you give someone like that a home and the adulation they crave, they're likely to run through walls for you.
It's not just me who saw a player in there. His movement and ability to find space in the final third, plus some of his link up play and finishing was top drawer, even though he was obviously nowhere near fit. Granted the rest of his game (and probably his head) was rusty but he still scored 5 goals in about 630 minutes of football for us, that's 1 goal in every 1.4 games from midfield, in a side that wasn't firing on all cylinders. That's pretty remarkable really.
I'm just saying if he can get himself together and we're willing to give him another chance then maybe.... just maybe... we'll get some value for what we spent on him.
In truth I think it's immaterial because I dont think SG will want him back, but we will see.

The timing of this stinks.

My opinion is he’s at it knowing we can do %^*& all.

He was slower than Charlie Adam and could not trap a football if it was stuck in his teeth. What a waste of money.
