New Edmiston House - What is going on?

maybe they should scrape the gigs side of things and have it just a club shop, museum ( of decent size )and a fanszone with bars ect

It’s less than a month since either Robertson or Bisgrove (can’t remember which) said it would be open by the end of the year. Yet the assembled masses on FF can look at a photo and tell us ‘no chance’.

It'll likely be ready, once the bill is paid it'll be flung up like any other kit these days.

Looks on par with a small Aldi or Lidl, so won't take long at all.

People need to be realistic with what to expect though, size wise and the contents of the building etc.

But just to clarify, Robertson etc said it'd be open for our 150th anniversary, and it wasn't, probably would've been had we paid our bill though.

Construction only due to restart, still looking at being done by the end of the year.

Been the plan for it since before the AGM.

Additional funding only signed off from the directors in May and was around March/April the other chunk of cash was wined and dined from the corporate bears.
I seem to recall the club stating the cost of construction was to be met by the proceeds from the sale of roughly half the Albion Car Park, which was then to be developed into flats. Apologies if I've missed an announcement to the effect this has fallen through, but we seem to have moved on from this to seeking funds for completion without any explanation from the Board. Like others I'm also concerned the building appears rather small given the stated facilities, but will reserve judgement until completion.

I think you deliberately miss the point people are making.

No one is commenting on what the finished article will look like.

The point is the size of it.
If you look above that post bud, it was me that initially mentioned the size in this thread.

That was just low hanging fruit.

Would it be that hard for Roberston or Bisgrove to issue a statement, clarifying progress and the timeline to completion ? If it is too hard then they should be gone.

Probably have to keep the megastore and utilise the new space a little differently.

The megastore was going to be a bar, wasn’t it?

That would have been cool.

New Edmiston House is supposed to have a Museum, bigger club shop, and an entertainment venue big enough to seat 1,000.

From the size, it's going to be fucking tiny.

Museum isn't going to be the grand thing we all think, it's going to be glorified trophy room.

No one has ever said that.

It’s a gig venue for up to 1000. 1000 standing is a lot less space.

The plans are freely available for it.

Did they not say it would be open for summer 2022?
One of the two I mentioned said at the 150th Reception at the Scottish Office it would open by the end of the year. That was only a few short weeks ago. Bisgrove, I think. Interview will be on RangersTV somewhere. If that was the forecast then, I doubt it will have changed much since.

For those questioning the size, if the planned size had changed since the original approval would we not be aware of that from the Planning Application process? I learned a long time ago that trying to judge the size of a building from a photograph was a bit daft as the angle of the shot can make said building look larger, or smaller, that the reality. Probably those who’ve actually seen it in the flesh are best placed to comment on that.

Yeah, was then scaled back to 1,000 but there's others now saying it's actually 750.

Which even that looks at push from the scale of the place.

It still needs to fit a museum and new club shop as well as a fanzone.
Google is your friend

"It will add to the conference, banquet and music venues available in Glasgow, as well as becoming a destination for visitors to the city. New Edmiston House is designed to host dinners for 500 people, sit an audience of 750 and host gigs and events for up to 1300"

The floor plans are out there as well

Cost of purchasing the land and initial works was covered by the sale.

It was agreed for it to be completely self funded, its why its owned by New Edmiston House Limited so it doesnt draw on the club for debt etc.

John Bennet and others put up initial funding with the gap meant to be covered by us with the packages but that wasnt enough with cost increases etc and we set up a special evening in Ibrox to bring in all the big hitters from corporate suites and ask them to fund the gap. Which they did.

Not a great reputational look

That’s something you’d expect from a bowling club or junior club. Not the Europa finalists

I should add from the floor plans I seen, I said at the time on here the bar area didn’t look that big and I could see it being an issue when full on match day for getting served.

Rest of it though seemed as expected unless it’s since been scaled back
Its not unusual for projects like this to take pauses or delays.

No one is ever going to get everything they wanted or expected from it. We all probably have different visions of what it should look like or should or shouldnt have.

Even 1,000 standing is pushing it, comparable venues of size only held around 600-700 and King Tut's was used as an example earlier and only holds around 400.

I just think we've all been sold this amazing venue idea, and we've got this in our head but the end result probably won't be what everyone expects.

Remember the plans for the casino and stuff under Murray? Never came to fruition, so this has at least came further.

But I think it'll be scaled down somewhat.

How can you try and take a victory lap over this when the building isn’t even wind and watertight?!
What you talking about? No laps of honour here, I stated that it all looked a bit tight on the plans that are freely available through Glasgow City planning portal. 1/3rd of the bottom floor is given over to dressing rooms, kitchens and bar, a small portion to part of the retail shop, the remainder is stage and open zone for the venue. Upstairs around 1/2 is remainder of shop and a cafe, then about 1/5 toilets and staff facilities , the remainder is the museum. My hopes was that it would maybe offer a bit more, especially with the museum,. Go on to planning and have a look and make your own mind up, I just think that when all the service spaces are taken into account it does not leave as much space as I hoped.

The only way I can see the planned capacity etc being reached, is if the museum club shop etc can all be essentially tucked away and the whole place becomes open plan.

But then that makes everything else that'll be in there seem a bit tacky imo.

I hope I'm wrong and the place is smashing.

I've worked in construction long enough to be able to look at that and know that when you start adding in all the utilities, safety regs, disability access etc.

That isn't really going to be very big when complete, unless they're going for the open warehouse type look.

It'll all be roomed off, or divided in such a way to make it feel bigger, but I can't see the museum, club shop that's supposed to be improved and house more focused stock, a fanzone type area as well as a thousand seat venue?

It's going to be small man.

Big enough for Papasmurf & Warwick Davis

Fits in no problem without anything moving

It looks small when you see the frame size in the flesh as well...

It was never to seat 1000 people, from memory I belive it was 600 and had a standing capacity for between 1000 and 1300, I think it will be perfect for the market they are aiming for, have you actually seen it real life, I pass it amost single day and it is anything but tiny

I always thought it looked a bit small on the plans, but seeing it up I think it is deceptive and is a decent enough size. It certainly hasn't been scaled back. There was a time slot for getting the utilities into the building which has now been done.

Works on site have started back recently, with Insulation works ongoing and there is a plan in place to get it finished this year.

The club is a cash business, and it is a lot of hard earned cash and investment that is going into this project. For me better spending money only when we get it rather than accruing unserviceable debt.

Yeah I saw how they propose to do it in the above video.

The museum was given as a main focal point, and by the look of it it'll be tucked away divided into little corridors to make it feel bigger with darkness and lighting. A glorified trophy room.

The rest of it looks impressive in the video, but the frame just looks small from pictures and going past Ibrox etc.

Like I said, hope to be proved wrong and it all goes smashing and makes the club loads of money.

I have seen it in real life mate, it still looks quite small for everything that's promised.

How long you worked in Construction and how many concert venues you been involved in?
